biblical character; companion of Moses and Aaron (Exod. 17:10–12)
Hur stood with Moses during the battle with Amalek and, with Aaron, held up Moses' hands until Israel prevailed.
Biography
Exodus 17 records Hur accompanying Moses and Aaron to the hill above the battle with Amalek. When Moses' hands grew weary, Aaron and Hur supported them until sunset while Joshua's forces prevailed. In Exodus 24 Moses left Aaron and Hur with authority to handle disputes while he ascended Sinai. Scripture does not explicitly identify this Hur as Miriam's husband or son.
Biblical Significance
Hur is remembered for supportive leadership at crucial moments. His role illustrates that Israel's victory depended on God's provision and on faithful cooperation rather than individual strength alone.
