Hadadezer son of Rehob was king of Zobah, a powerful Aramean ruler defeated by David during the expansion of Israel's kingdom.
Biography
Second Samuel 8 and 1 Chronicles 18 recount David defeating Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as Hadadezer sought to restore his control near the Euphrates. David captured large numbers of chariots, horsemen, and soldiers and hamstrung most of the chariot horses. When Arameans from Damascus came to Hadadezer's aid, David defeated them as well and placed garrisons in Damascus. Later Hadadezer's forces and allies again appear in the wider Aramean conflict described in 2 Samuel 10.
Biblical Significance
Hadadezer's defeat marked the height of David's military power over neighboring Aramean states. The narratives repeatedly attribute David's victories to the Lord's preservation and favor.
