Genesis 36 and 1 Chronicles 1 list Hadad son of Bedad among the kings who reigned in Edom before Israel had a king. He succeeded Husham, and his royal city was Avith. The genealogical notice says he defeated Midian in the country of Moab. Scripture provides no further personal narrative.

Biblical Significance

Hadad son of Bedad belongs to the early political history of Edom preserved in Genesis. He should be distinguished from Hadad the Edomite who later opposed Solomon.
