Fortunatus was a Christian from Corinth who, with Stephanas and Achaicus, visited Paul and refreshed his spirit; Scripture does not identify him as one of the Seventy.
Biography
First Corinthians 16 records Paul's rejoicing at the arrival of Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus. They supplied what was lacking from the Corinthians' physical presence and refreshed Paul and the believers, leading Paul to urge recognition of such men. No other certain New Testament information about Fortunatus is given. The title 'Apostle' and inclusion among the Seventy belong to later Christian tradition.
Biblical Significance
Fortunatus provides a brief example of practical fellowship and encouragement in the early church. His canonical biography should remain distinct from later ecclesiastical traditions.
