Elishah was a son of Javan and grandson of Japheth in the Table of Nations and an ancestral name later associated with maritime peoples.
Biography
Genesis 10 and 1 Chronicles 1 list Elishah among Javan's sons with Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim or Rodanim depending on the textual tradition. Ezekiel 27 later refers to the coastlands of Elishah in connection with Tyre's trade. Scripture provides no personal narrative of the ancestral Elishah.
Biblical Significance
Elishah belongs to the Table of Nations and the biblical picture of Mediterranean peoples. The ancestral figure should be distinguished from the later geographic or ethnic use of the name.
