Elah was an Edomite clan chief named among the chiefs descended from Esau.
Biography
Genesis 36 and 1 Chronicles 1 include a chief named Elah among the chiefs of Edom. Scripture supplies no independent actions, speeches, or narrative for this individual. He should be distinguished from Elah king of Israel and from other people or places bearing the same name.
Biblical Significance
This Elah is significant only within Edomite genealogy and clan organization. Accurate crosslinking should prevent him from being merged with the Israelite king Elah.
