Demas was a coworker of Paul who was later reported to have deserted him because he loved the present world.
Biography
Colossians and Philemon include Demas among Paul's companions and fellow workers. In Paul's final letter, however, 2 Timothy 4 says Demas deserted him because he loved the present age and went to Thessalonica. Scripture gives no later account explaining whether he ever returned.
Biblical Significance
Demas provides a sobering contrast between beginning in Christian service and persevering faithfully. His brief biblical record warns that association with apostolic ministry did not guarantee endurance.
