This Deborah was Rebekah's nurse, whose death near Bethel is recorded during Jacob's return to the land.
Biography
Genesis 35:8 says Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried below Bethel under an oak that was named Allon-bacuth, meaning 'oak of weeping.' Genesis 24 earlier mentions a nurse accompanying Rebekah when she left her family to marry Isaac, though she is not named there. Scripture gives no additional personal narrative.
Biblical Significance
Deborah's brief notice suggests that she was a long-standing and mourned member of the patriarchal household. She must be distinguished from Deborah the judge and prophetess.
