Biography

Matthew 2 tells of Magi from the east who followed the star, sought the king of the Jews, worshiped Jesus, and presented gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The familiar names Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar arose in later Christian tradition, along with details about their ages, kingdoms, and ethnic identities. None of those names appears in Matthew.

Biblical Significance

For AVWJ, Caspar should be labeled as later Christian tradition rather than as a named biblical figure. The canonical narrative concerns the unnamed Magi collectively.
