Ahikam

Ahikam son of Shaphan was a Judean official who protected Jeremiah from execution and fathered Gedaliah, the later Babylonian-appointed governor.
Biography
Ahikam belonged to the influential family of Shaphan. During Josiah's reign he was among the delegation sent to the prophetess Huldah after the Book of the Law was found. Later, when priests, prophets, and people threatened Jeremiah with death after his Temple sermon, Jeremiah 26 says the hand of Ahikam son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah so that he was not handed over to be killed. Ahikam's son Gedaliah later became governor over the remnant in Judah after Jerusalem fell.
Biblical Significance
Ahikam is remembered for using his influence to protect Jeremiah at a critical moment. His family remained important among those receptive to Jeremiah's prophetic ministry.
