Biography
Caleb promised his daughter Achsah in marriage to the man who captured Kiriath-sepher. Othniel took the city and received Achsah as his wife. In the account preserved in Joshua and Judges, Achsah urged a request concerning land and personally asked her father for a blessing because the Negev property required water. Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.
Biblical Significance
Achsah is remembered for initiative and practical wisdom in securing water necessary for her household's inheritance. Her story also connects Caleb's family with Othniel, Israel's first judge.
