Amon son of Manasseh was king of Judah for two years and continued the idolatrous practices associated with his father's earlier life.
Biography
Amon became king at age twenty-two. Kings and Chronicles say he did evil, worshiping and serving the idols his father Manasseh had made. Unlike Manasseh, Amon did not humble himself before the Lord; Chronicles says he multiplied guilt. His servants conspired against him and killed him in the palace. The people of the land then killed the conspirators and made Amon's young son Josiah king.
Biblical Significance
Amon's brief reign forms a dark contrast with Manasseh's late repentance and prepares the way for the striking reforms of Josiah.
