Shallum son of Jabesh seized Israel's throne by assassinating Zechariah but ruled for only one month before Menahem killed him.
Biography
Second Kings 15 records Shallum's conspiracy against Zechariah and his accession to the throne. His reign in Samaria lasted only a month. Menahem son of Gadi came from Tirzah, attacked Shallum in Samaria, killed him, and became king in his place. Scripture gives little additional personal information about Shallum.
Biblical Significance
Shallum's one-month reign illustrates the accelerating political instability of Israel's final decades, when assassination and counter-assassination repeatedly transferred the throne.
