Eliezer was a son of Moses and Zipporah whose name commemorated God's help in delivering Moses from Pharaoh's sword.
Biography
Exodus 18 identifies Eliezer as one of the two sons of Moses. Moses explained his name by declaring that the God of his father had been his help and had delivered him from Pharaoh's sword. Jethro brought Zipporah, Gershom, and Eliezer to Moses in the wilderness after Israel's departure from Egypt. Later genealogical material in Chronicles traces descendants through Eliezer. He should not be confused with Eliezer of Damascus, Abraham's servant mentioned in Genesis.
Biblical Significance
Eliezer's name functions as a personal testimony to divine deliverance in Moses' life. The distinction between this Eliezer and other biblical men of the same name is important for accurate crosslinking.
