The stronghold captured by David from the Jebusites and called the city of David. The name later referred to Jerusalem, Israel, the temple hill, and, in the New Testament, the heavenly city.
Biblical Usage
In the Old Testament, Zion can refer to Jerusalem, the temple hill, or God’s chosen people. In the New Testament it denotes the Church of God and the heavenly city in the passages supplied.
