Zerubbabel
The Davidic descendant who led the first Jewish return from Babylon and oversaw the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem.
Biblical Usage
Zerubbabel led the returned community, erected the altar, laid the temple foundation, and oversaw its completion. His royal descent gave him an important place among the restored people and in the genealogies connected with Jesus.
