Zadok
People & Groups • Old Testament
Zadok was a high priest in the reigns of David and Solomon who remained loyal to David during Adonijah’s attempted succession. Solomon made him sole high priest after removing Abiathar, and the name is also borne by several later Israelites.
Biblical Usage
Zadok supported David during Absalom’s rebellion and Adonijah’s attempt to seize the throne. He helped bring up the ark and anointed Solomon at David’s command. After Solomon removed Abiathar from the high-priestly position, Zadok became sole high priest.
