War
War is armed conflict between peoples or nations. Scripture records Israel’s wars, judgments upon wicked nations, defensive struggles, and internal conflicts, while also using warfare as a figure for the Christian’s spiritual struggle.
Biblical Usage
Israel fought to possess the Promised Land and later engaged in wars with surrounding nations, Egypt, Assyria, and Babylon, as well as internal conflicts. Scripture also presents Christian life as warfare and Christian virtues as spiritual armor; final blessedness is associated with victory.
