Vulgate, The
The Vulgate is the historic Latin version of the Bible, chiefly associated with Jerome, who revised the Latin New Testament and translated the Old Testament from Hebrew. It became the principal Bible of Western Christianity for many centuries.
Biblical Usage
For many centuries the Vulgate was the principal Bible used in Western Christianity. Its wording strongly influenced the theological vocabulary of the Western churches and later vernacular versions.
