Village
Government & Society • Both
A village is a small settlement, often unwalled and dependent upon a larger town. Biblical villages could consist of permanent houses, tent groups, cattle enclosures, or scattered dwellings in open country.
Biblical Usage
The New Testament uses the Greek term for a village, while Old Testament terms distinguish villages, dependent towns, cattle enclosures, and settlements in the open country. Some settlements were suburbs outside fortified towns.
