Ur
Ur was the city of the Chaldees from which Terah and Abraham departed toward Canaan. It was an important ancient center in Mesopotamia, though its exact identification has been debated.
Biblical Usage
Ur is identified in Genesis as the birthplace of Haran and the place from which Terah and Abraham began their journey toward Canaan. Stephen refers to the setting as Mesopotamia.
