Unction
Unction means anointing. In the New Testament it refers especially to the spiritual anointing given to believers, signifying the Holy Spirit’s presence and teaching.
Biblical Usage
In 1 John, unction refers to the spiritual anointing associated with believers. In the wider biblical symbolism, kings, prophets, and priests were anointed as a token of divine grace, and believers are called the Lord’s anointed in a secondary sense.
