Tribe
A tribe is a community of families descended from a common ancestor. The tribes of Israel descended from Jacob’s sons and formed the principal divisions of the covenant people.
Biblical Usage
The tribes formed the principal divisions of Israel. In Matthew 24:30 the term has a wider significance, and Revelation uses Israel’s tribes as types of the spiritual family of God.
