STAVES
Temple & Tabernacle • Old Testament
The staves were wooden poles used to carry the ark and other holy furnishings of the tabernacle. They were made of acacia wood and covered with gold or bronze according to the object they served.
Biblical Usage
Levites carried the ark, the golden altar, the table for the bread, and the bronze altar on these poles. The ark’s staves remained visible in Solomon’s Temple from the adjoining holy place.
