SPIRITUAL ROCK
The spiritual rock refers especially to Christ, whom Paul identifies with the rock that supplied water to Israel in the wilderness. It signifies God’s supernatural provision and Christ as the sustaining source of spiritual life.
Biblical Usage
Paul declares that the rock which supplied Israel was Christ. The image presents Christ as the source of supernatural provision and sustaining spiritual life, while Scripture also uses rock imagery of Yahweh and of Christ as the foundation of Christian confession.
