Spinning
Agriculture & Daily Life • Both
Spinning was the handcraft of drawing and twisting fibers such as flax, wool, cotton, or goats’ hair into thread. In Scripture it is especially associated with women’s work and with the lilies’ lack of labor.
Biblical Usage
The Bible presents spinning especially as women’s work and mentions it in connection with the making of cloth and garments. Jesus referred to the lilies as neither toiling nor spinning, using the familiar craft in His teaching.
