SHOULDER-PIECE
Temple & Tabernacle • Old Testament
The shoulder-pieces were the two straps of the high priest’s ephod that passed over his shoulders. On them were mounted stones bearing the names of Israel’s tribes as memorials before the Lord.
Biblical Usage
The shoulder-pieces formed part of the high priest’s sacred clothing. The stones on them represented the tribes of Israel as memorials before the Lord, and woven bands connected them with the breastplate.
