Ophrah
Places & Geography • Old Testament
Ophrah was the name of two Old Testament places: a town in Benjamin and the city of Gideon’s family in Manasseh. Gideon built an altar there and later set up an ephod that became a snare.
Biblical Usage
At the Manassite Ophrah, Gideon built an altar to Yahweh and later set up a golden ephod from the spoils of Midian. The ephod became a snare to Gideon and his house. Abimelech later killed Gideon’s sons there, except Jotham.
