Naboth

People & Groups • Old Testament
Naboth owned a vineyard beside King Ahab’s palace at Jezreel. Because he refused to surrender his inherited land, Jezebel arranged his false accusation and death, bringing prophetic judgment upon Ahab’s house.
Biblical Usage
Naboth’s death exposes the injustice of Ahab and Jezebel and illustrates the biblical concern for inherited property and justice. Elijah denounced the crime, and judgment later came upon Ahab’s royal house, although Ahab’s temporary humility brought a respite.
