A kiss in Scripture could express affection, reconciliation, farewell, homage, or worship. Christians also used the holy kiss as a sign of brotherly love, while kissing idols represented false worship.
Biblical Usage
Scripture records kisses among relatives, friends, and those parting; as signs of reconciliation and homage; and in the “holy kiss” among Christians. It also uses a kiss in Judas’s betrayal of Jesus and associates kissing with idolatrous worship.
