Jezebel

People & Groups • Both
Jezebel was the Phoenician wife of Ahab, king of Israel. She promoted Baal worship, persecuted the Lord’s prophets, and arranged Naboth’s unjust death; she was eventually killed during Jehu’s judgment on Ahab’s house.
Biblical Usage
Jezebel persecuted the prophets of the Lord, supported hundreds of prophets of Baal, and arranged the judicial murder of Naboth so that Ahab could obtain his vineyard. Her death under Jehu fulfilled prophetic judgment, and her name became a symbol of wicked influence.
