Jesse
Jesse was the Bethlehemite father of David, descended from Obed, Boaz, and Ruth. The promised Messiah is described as coming from the root or family line of Jesse.
Biblical Usage
Jesse is important in the genealogy leading to David. The “stem” or “root of Jesse” becomes a designation for David’s family and for the Messiah who comes from that line.
