Jeshimon means “the desert” or “desolate waste.” It refers to barren districts near the Dead Sea and is also used more generally for wilderness.
Biblical Usage
In Numbers, Pisgah and Peor are described as facing Jeshimon. In 1 Samuel, the plateau near the hill of Hachilah is associated with Jeshimon. The word can also mean a particularly hopeless desert, contrasted with wilderness where animals may be pastured.
