Jeroboam
People & Groups • Old Testament
Jeroboam was the name of two kings of Israel. Jeroboam I led the ten northern tribes after the kingdom divided and established worship centers at Bethel and Dan; Jeroboam II greatly expanded Israel but continued the nation’s sinful religious policy.
Biblical Usage
Jeroboam I established worship centers at Bethel and Dan with golden calves, refusing the centrality of Jerusalem and becoming known as the man who made Israel sin. Jeroboam II continued that religious policy, though his reign restored Israel’s boundaries and prosperity.
