People & Groups • Old Testament
Jehu was the tenth king of Israel and founder of a dynasty. Anointed to execute judgment on Ahab’s house, he destroyed Baal worship but continued the worship of the golden calves and was condemned for it.
Biblical Usage
Jehu was appointed to execute judgment against the house of Ahab. He killed Jehoram, brought about Jezebel’s death, destroyed Ahab’s descendants, and eliminated Baal worship in Israel. Yet he retained the golden-calf worship at Bethel and Dan, for which his house and kingdom suffered divine displeasure.
