IR-HA-HERES

Places & Geography • Old Testament
Ir-ha-heres is the disputed name of a city in Egypt mentioned in Isaiah 19:18. Because ancient manuscripts differ, its exact reading and identification remain uncertain; it may describe a city destined for destruction.
Biblical Usage
Isaiah presents Ir-ha-heres within a prophecy concerning Egypt and “that day.” The passage speaks of five Egyptian cities, worship of Yahweh, an altar and pillar, deliverance, and the future destruction of one city. The entry therefore belongs to the prophetic message concerning Egypt’s future.
