INSURRECTION
Insurrection is an organized uprising or revolt against authority. The term is used of rebellion in the Gospels and of accusations of stirring up disorder in Acts.
Biblical Usage
The Gospels use the word for the uprising associated with Barabbas and for the accusation of sedition. Acts 24:5 uses it of alleged insurrections, while the Revised Version distinguishes the term from “sedition” in the cited passages.
