Hamath

A major ancient city and kingdom in upper Syria, situated on the Orontes River. Hamath had relations with Israel, was repeatedly involved in regional conflicts, and later became known as Hamah.
Biblical Usage
Hamath marked the northern extent of the ideal territory of Israel. Its king Tou formed friendly relations with David, Solomon built store cities in its land, and later kings of Israel and Assyria fought over it. Its people were eventually transported and some were settled in Samaria.
