GERIZIM, MOUNT
Mount Gerizim stood opposite Mount Ebal near Shechem. Israel’s blessings were pronounced from Gerizim, and later the Samaritans built a rival temple there; it is also the mountain mentioned by the Samaritan woman in conversation with Jesus.
Biblical Usage
The Israelites who stood on Gerizim responded to the blessings proclaimed during the reading of the law. The Samaritan woman referred to this mountain in conversation with Jesus.
