GAZELLE
The gazelle is a swift, graceful antelope of Syria and Palestine. In many Bible passages, the animal translated “roe” or “roebuck” is more probably the gazelle, which was admired for its beauty and speed.
Biblical Usage
The gazelle appears in passages emphasizing beauty, swiftness, and flight. It was also among the animals that could be eaten under the relevant dietary provisions.
