Gaza
Gaza was a prominent Philistine city on the route between Palestine and Egypt. It was associated with Samson, was repeatedly fought over, and is mentioned in the account of Philip’s journey to meet the Ethiopian official.
Biblical Usage
Gaza was assigned to Judah but remained associated with the Philistines. Samson carried away its gates, was imprisoned there, and destroyed the temple of Dagon. The prophets announced judgment against it, and Acts records Philip’s journey on the road to Gaza.
