Gath
Gath was one of the five chief cities of the Philistines and the home of Goliath. David fled there from Saul, and the city was later captured and repeatedly contested by Israel and other powers.
Biblical Usage
The ark was taken to Gath after its capture and the city was struck by calamity. David twice fled there from Saul, and later Gath was captured, restored, and again attacked. The city is remembered in the saying, “Tell it not in Gath.”
