Gamaliel
Gamaliel was the name of a Manassite leader in the wilderness and of a prominent Pharisee in Jerusalem. The latter advised the council to leave the apostles alone, warning that opposition to a work from God could become opposition to God Himself; he had also taught Paul.
Biblical Usage
The Pharisee Gamaliel persuaded the council to exercise restraint toward the apostles, warning that opposition to a work of God would fail and might amount to fighting against God. Paul later identified him as his teacher in the Mosaic law.
