Frankincense
Frankincense is a fragrant resin burned as incense and used with offerings in Israel’s worship. Its rising fragrance symbolized prayer, and it was among the gifts brought to the infant Jesus by the wise men.
Biblical Usage
Frankincense formed part of the sanctuary perfume and accompanied meat offerings and the showbread. Its fragrant smoke became an emblem of prayer and a symbol associated with the divine name. It was also among the gifts presented to the infant Jesus.
