Food
Agriculture & Daily Life • Both
Food in the Bible includes grains, bread, vegetables, fruit, milk, honey, and meat. Scripture records God’s provision of food, laws concerning clean and unclean animals, restrictions on blood and certain fats, and the preparation of meals for ordinary and sacred use.
Biblical Usage
Scripture presents food as God’s provision while regulating what Israelites could eat. The Mosaic law distinguished clean from unclean animals and prohibited blood, certain fats, animals that died improperly, and food dedicated to idols. Manna and quails sustained Israel in the wilderness, while grain, lentils, figs, grapes, and other foods appear throughout biblical narratives.
