Fable
A fable is a story in which animals, plants, or other creatures speak and act like people, often to teach a moral lesson. In the New Testament the term also refers to religious myths or speculative tales contrasted with the truth of the gospel.
Biblical Usage
The Old Testament examples include Jotham’s fable of the trees choosing a king and Jehoash’s story of the thistle and cedar. In the New Testament, “fables” are religious myths contrasted with the truth and with eyewitness knowledge.
