Eschew

To eschew means to turn away from or deliberately avoid something, especially evil. Scripture uses the term in exhortations to depart from evil and pursue peace.
Biblical Usage
The King James Version uses “eschew” in Job and 1 Peter in exhortations describing a person who turns away from evil. The American Standard Revised Version renders these occurrences with the clearer expression “turn away from.”
