Epicureans, The
The Epicureans were a philosophical school founded by Epicurus that sought happiness through pleasure, tranquility, and freedom from fear. In Acts, members of this school encountered Paul in Athens and disputed his proclamation of Jesus and the resurrection.
Biblical Usage
Paul addressed Epicureans and Stoics in Athens. The Epicureans disputed his proclamation, since their teaching did not accept the Christian message concerning Jesus, resurrection, divine judgment, or the future life.
