Ephesus
Ephesus was a major city and port of the Roman province of Asia, noted for the temple of Artemis and its large theater. Paul ministered there for an extended period, and a strong Christian church was established despite opposition from the city’s idolatrous worship.
Biblical Usage
Paul visited Ephesus near the end of his second missionary journey and later ministered there for about two to three years. His preaching led to the establishment of a strong church and the spread of the gospel throughout Asia. Timothy was later instructed to remain there.
