ENVY
A sinful resentment of another person’s advantages or possessions. Scripture distinguishes envy from proper zeal and repeatedly warns believers against its destructive effects.
Biblical Usage
Envy is strongly condemned in both Testaments. It led to the crucifixion of Christ, is listed among the works of the flesh, and is opposed to Christian love. Believers are warned against it, although a related word may describe zeal or jealous concern.
